5 Reasons to Walk in the Forest

Staying at the yurt has given me a real love for spending time in the forest and being completely immersed in nature. I take for granted this time away from the buzz of a city - hearing the cars and the people just becomes natural and you don’t even register it anymore. But out here, everything is so alive. You’re in the home of thousands of creatures that all live in complete harmony, going about their own businesses and living their own little lives. No two noises are the same and everything just feels peaceful. I’m writing this post on a deck chair overlooking miles and miles and forest and field. Nothing but the sounds of birds, the wings of the busy insects and the rustle in the trees all around me. There’s absolutely no sign of a car or a road or another being, just me in nature.

(my current view!)

There’s a quote that says something like 'everybody should find themselves regularly overwhelmed by nature’. I never completely understood this until I truly experienced it. If meditation isn’t something you find yourself wanting to do, then simply taking a walk into the woods, or along the moors can have an almost exact same effect of complete bliss and an overwhelming feeling of clarity.

I've put together a little list of 5 effects simply walking in to the forest can have on your mind, body and soul!

1) You are experiencing a whole new side of our world, we can become lost in the concrete jungle of our towns and cities and forget about these natural wonders that sit just on our doorstep. So allow yourself time to experience new sights.

2) You will always gain a new perspective, I can almost guarantee that if you’re finding yourself truly immersed in the wilderness of nature then NOTHING will feel as bad as it did before. Let your body surrender to the sounds and the buzz of the life. Watch as the creatures scuttle around going about their business, watch as the birds take flight in to the sky, watch the interactions between the butterflies and the bees. Everything is synchronised and everything is harmonious. It has such a balancing effect on our own mind and soul.

3) There’s often no bloody WIFI or signal, so it’s hard to become distracted by the temptations of modern day technology! I would suggest going out AT LEAST once without your phone so you can’t be tempted and nothing could jeoparidse your time alone with nature.

4) You’re free from any kinds of judgement. You can give your ego a chance to rest! You don’t need to worry how your hair looks or if your 'eye liner is wonky'. There’s no one to impress and no one to judge you. This is genuinely one of the best feelings in the world - To feel completely satisfied with yourself in the world around you. When you achieve this lack-of-ego feeling, you can carry it back with you into your everyday life, you know how amazing it felt that one time where you didn’t have to worry how you looked.. So why not feel that way all the time! You decide how you feel, so choose to feel confident in your own skin ALL THE TIME!

5) Freedom. There’s non of the 21st century pressures like worrying about your future or your next move or your career! There’s just this moment. It’s the simplest thing, yet the hardest thing in the world to do.. To just exist. It’s so much easier to do when your surrounded by the forest, there is no concept of time. Time is dictated to us by clocks which are again just a modern day invention that we tell ourselves is correct. Question everything and you will realise how little of it has a true meaning in our lives. There’s so many amazing things that happen to us each and everyday, but the joys of these are taken away and overshadowed by our feelings of worry and self-doubt. So CHOOSE not to let this happen. Wake up thankful for simple wonder of being able to wake up today. Be thankful to be a part of this incredible ‘human race’. We all have the simple pleasure of existing. So let yourself be pleasured by this alone. Freedom is a state of mind, nothing more. So be part of the movement that decide to live free. Ever met an unhappy hippie? Join the rainbow tribe and CHOOSE HAPPINESS!

Thank you for reading and I hope you are able to take this advice with you and go for a simple walk in the wilderness. It will help you more than any pill, any counsellor and any cigarette ever could. Enjoy your life!

Namaste, Brooke x
